Im Rahmen des Studiums im Bereich „Neue Medien“ an der Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Zürich reiste Alex Antener im Jahr 2004 für 7 Monate nach Malawi (Südostafrika) um an der dortigen Universität (Polytechnic of Malawi) ein GNU/Linux Projekt durchzuführen. Auf dem 23c3 stellte er in einem Vortrag das Projekt vor: „Freie Software – Eine Chance für Afrika? – Ein Erfahrungsbericht aus Malawi„. Von dem Vortrag gibt es auch ein Video.
