25.–26. Mai: Flossie – London
Flossie is a free, two-day event for women who work with or are otherwise interested in Free and Open Source Software (FLOSS) and in Open Data, Knowledge and Education.
Flossie is an independent network of women practitioners that has its roots in social change movements as well as arts, technology and academia. Whether you code, tinker or want to explore alternatives to ‘big-tech’ corporations, all women are welcome to this conference.
The first day will mix micro-talks with birds of a feather sessions to the work we do. On the second day there will be more structured workshops and discussions for both experienced practitioners and women new to FLOSS to make contact and skill-share.
ab 4. Juni: Hacker School – New York
Hacker School is a three-month, full-time school in New York for becoming a better programmer. We’re free as in beer, and provide space, a little structure, time to focus, and a friendly community of smart builders dedicated to self-improvement.
Etsy will be hosting the Summer 2012 session of Hacker School in the Etsy headquarters, and we’re providing ten Etsy Hacker Grants of $5,000 each — a total of $50,000 — to women who want to apply but need financial support to do so. Our goal is to bring 20 women to New York to participate, and we hope this will be the first of many steps that encourage more women to join Engineering at Etsy and across the industry. Learn more about the Etsy Hacker Grants program.
10.–11. Juli: AdaCamp – Washington D.C.
AdaCamp is a Ada Initiative event focused on increasing women’s participation in open technology and culture. AdaCamp brings together people to build community, discuss issues women have in common across open technology and culture fields, and find ways to address them. Open technology and culture includes open source software, Wikipedia and other wiki projects, open data, open government, fan/remix culture, open libraries, and more. Attendance is by invitation and attendees are selected from qualified applicants through an open invitation process. Attendance is open to people of all genders.

Wikimania brings influential and talented people from around the world who are interested in improving the participation of women in Wikipedia and other open data projects, as shown by Wikimania’s selection of Ada Initiative co-founder Mary Gardiner as a keynote speaker.
