Das japanische Außenministerium verkündet auf seiner Webseite, dass am kommenden Samstag, den 1. Oktober das umstrittene ACTA-Abkommen beschlossen und unterzeichnet werden soll. Mit dabei sind Australien, die EU (und damit auch Deutschland), Japan, Kanada, Mexiko, Marocco, Neuseeland, Singapur, Schweiz, Süd-Korea und die USA.
The Agreement was inspired in significant part by Japan’s proposal at the G8 Gleneagles Summit in 2005 to create a new international framework against counterfeit and pirated products, in the context of the heightened awareness of the need for a higher degree of intellectual property protection. Its negotiation has been led by a strong initiative of Japan, the United States and other key partners.
Eine letzte Hoffnung besteht, das Abkommen auf EU-Ebene im Europaparlament zu stoppen, bzw. müssen die Nationalstaaten noch alle zustimmen. Dazu bald mehr, wenn das konkreter wird.
Update: Aktueller Stand ist, dass die EU ACTA (noch) am Samstag wohl nicht unterzeichnen wird. In Mexiko hat der Senat es auf Eis gelegt, bleiben also USA und Japan und ein paar andere für Samstag. Die Mitzeichnungsmöglichkeit läuft aber noch ein paar Monate.
